In some cases, like liver surfaces parallel to the contour, the contour representation may produce overly thickened contours

We might be able to mitigate this by reducing the thickness of the contour selectively by weighting the thickness by the cosine of the angle between the fragment's normal and the surface's normal. A similar principle may apply to the distance contours strategy.

we could also reduce the thickness of the contour
