Upgrade issue: local website is "gone"

Hello

I did the upgrade (kept the previous version in "old" directory)

The WebUI is OK. I see Liveview image with my old overlay settings.

I enable local website in the UI:

However I have no local website anymore. See screenshot below

I know I have to edit the configuration.json, but I don't know what to change there.
I have attached the file so you can have a look.

Note: I see in the file that the website version is still the old version. Is this OK?

I attach the install log file (I removed data host username password for now)

Also, when I do
cd ~/allsky; ./remoteWebsiteInstall.sh
I got this screenshot

and then it blocks. I guess this is because the local website is NOK.

Any idea what went wrong and how to correct?

The message in yellow is from the local Website, so you DO still have the local Website.
The message tells you what to do. If you have a suggestion on how to word the message so it's more clear, let me know. It is telling you to go to the Editor page in the WebUI and edit the configuration.json file, replacing l the entries with XX_NEED_TO_UPDATE_XX.

The AllskyWebsiteVersion entry should have been deleted when you enabled the local Website, so that is a bug I will look into. Thanks for reporting it.
Did you have a local Website with your prior version of Allsky, or is this the first local Website?

I will respond to your question about the remote Website later. No time right now.

I found what the issue was:

the "XXX_NEEDS_TO_UPDATE_XX" need to be removed from the comment in the configuraiton.json.

I did not realize this. I thaught it was about fields in the file that contains this XXX

So yes, this yellow error message should be more clear like:

Update all fields containing XXX
"check all other fields"
and above all, remove from the comment "XXX_NEEDS_TO_UPDATE_XX"

Anyway, it works now, also the remote website.
Tomorow I'll see if the startrail, timelaps etc is working

FYI, in the next Allsky release fields with XX_NEED_TO_UPDATE_XX are highlighted so are MUCH easier to see.

Great, thanks. But what confused me was that the the XX_ had to be removed from the comment line itself. By no means I thaught a comment could influence what soever, so I never thaught to remove it from the comment line.

When the web page searches for XX_NEED_TO_UPDATE_XX it searches the whole file and has no idea what's in the file, so it's a "dumb" search.
I really think highlighting those strings in the next release will help people determine what needs changing.

The configuration.json file you attached still has one XX_NEED_TO_UPDATE_XX string in it:

The check for that string isn't smart - it just checks if that string exists anywhere in the file, so I would expect you to still get the yellow error message. The only thing you must changes are the occurrences of XX_NEED_TO_UPDATE_XX. The settings with XXX_ in them are optional.

You are correct that when I say, "Go to the 'Editor' page in the WebUI" that means click on the </> Editor link.

Would you please attach ~/allsky-OLD/html/allsky/configuration.json ? I want to look into why the installation script didn't delete the obsolete AllskyWebsiteVersion setting.

Also, what did you do to get the remote Website working?

The configuration I attached was still before the websites were working. I removed the "XXX_need to update_xxx" after I wrote the comment. Sorry for the confusion.

I attached the configuraiton/json from the old allsky.

Why was the remote worksite working? Because I removed the XXX_need to update_xxx from the configuration files, as well from the local as the remote one. Then both websites worked.

However, I still have an issue. When I do
cd ~/allsky; ./remoteWebsiteInstall.sh
I got this screenshot

and then it blocks. Why is that? But again, the remote website is working to show the life image as you can see on this screenshot:

Please run testUpload.sh to see why remoteWebsiteInstall.sh is hanging. We will need to modify the program so it produces an error rather than hang.
How long are you letting it go before you stop it? 10 seconds? 1 minute, etc.?

Are the timelapse, keogram, and startrails images in your last post from your local Website or remote Website? If from the local site, run ls -lR ~/allsky/html/allsky. The "Permission Denied" message shouldn't be happening.

I let it hang several minutes.

I've run testupload: see

Concerning the timelapse, keogram issues: it was on the test server, but the owner (a friend) has changed the permissions so it's ok.
I have deleted this issue in the comment as everthing was solved this morning in order not to clutter that comment (the real issue is the hanging of the installation of the remote website).

Same issue here, remoteWebsiteInstall.sh hang for long time.
remoteWebsiteInstall.sh.txt well upload on remote.

Same for testUpload.sh --website, testUpload.sh.txt well upload too..

Please do the following:

cd ~/allsky
> config/logs/remoteWebsiteInstall.log
./remoteWebsiteInstall.sh        # To see if it still hangs.  Give it about a minute, then kill the installation
# IF IT HUNG:
    mv remoteWebsiteInstall.sh remoteWebsiteInstall.sh-OLD
    # Download the file below to this directory
    mv remoteWebsiteInstall.sh.txt remoteWebsiteInstall.sh
   chmod 755 remoteWebsiteInstall.sh
   ./remoteWebsiteInstall.sh

This should timeout after 30 or 60 seconds if the test upload hangs.

Please send ~/allsky/config/logs/remoteWebsiteInstall.log

I you ftp into the server and go to the "allsky" directory you should see image.jpg and loading.jpg.
loading.jpg is displayed until the image defined via the imageName setting is loaded.

The image you see on the website is an old image from the day I run the remote website command.
I tried to add an existing image.jpg to see if it refresh. It does but current image on the pi does not upload.

Then, look at the Upload Every X Images setting in the Websites and Remote Server Settings section of the WebUI. Per the comment, setting it to 0 never uploads images. If you want every image uploaded, set it to 1.

it's good for us to see "user errors" because it often leads to improvements in Allsky to make future errors less likely.

A good example is the dozens of people with misconfigured Allsky Websites. We greatly simplified the Website settings in the new release and have had significantly fewer Website-related user errors.

Instead I use https://www.vvscapella.be/OVA/html/allsky/index.php which is the permanent site. It’s working fine right now. I did not try your instructions on the “hanging” installation yet.
