Choosing Emotions and Colours
Psychologist Robert Plutchik stated that there are eight basic emotions: joy, trust, fear, surprise, sadness, anticipation, anger, and disgust. Each of these emotions has a compliment (i.e. an opposite emotion) joy and sadness, trust and disgust, fear and anger, surprise and anticipation.
Since these emotions are the most basic emotions (according to Plutchik), the user should feel at least one of these emotions. As other emotions are a combination of these emotions, feeling another emotion implies feeling a combination of these basic eight emotions. For this reason, believe the user should always be able to pick an emotion he/she feels relevant.
Since joy and happiness are synonymous, we have decided to call joy happiness. We also decided to include love as well despite the fact it is not a basic emotion as we believe there would demand for it.
The colours attributed to each emotion are derived from the Plutchik wheel. With the exception of love which was chosen to be pink.
