A nice feature would be to target announcements to a specific user type (student, lab assistant, grader, staff) or even to flash messages to students on a particular homework question. This should be supported by a notification popup.

We have an existing system for flashed messages, so we can leverage that somehow. We've been manually making announcements this way.
