BEAUti windows alignment viewer shows black screen

Instead of showing the alignment in a pop-up window, the window only shows a black screen.
This was observed during a workshop with first time users, so may have something to do with packages being installed interacting with the pop-up window or some other initial condition. Seen both on windows and os x.
