There is a need to explicitly represent the plural form of skos concepts in our controlled vocabularies across the languages. Hence:

  • When converting the data and parsing free text to disambiguate the name of an instrument (e.g. 2 pianos)
  • When displaying the data in a user interface (e.g. in Overture)

Best practices for managing the plural form of terms vary.

  • There was this label ontology but unfortunately, this ontology is not widely used, unavailable at the moment (503 response).
  • Originally, the skos:altLabel property was meant to be used for plural forms, see the original definition but this is not written anymore in the Recommendation version of the document
