What's new?
- For a list of games working, please scroll down.
- Dynamic caching implemented for most games.
- Near cart speeds have been achieved for games above 28MB!
- Want to return to the ROM selection menu of bootstrap's GUI frontend? No problem! Use the L+R+DOWN+B button combination to return to SRLoader (if CIA is installed)!
- We now have an advantage over flashcarts! For games that use infrared, a cart containing IR is needed.
Thanks to the discovery of allowing 32MB RAM size in TWL_FIRM, we've achieved the following:
- Total RAM cache size has been increased from 8MB to 24MB.
- Most games that are 28MB or below (with padding trimmed out) will now be loaded into RAM, and will have definitive cart speeds!
Examples are Super Mario 64 DS, New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart DS, Super Princess Peach, Bomberman, Yoshi Touch & Go, MMBN5 Double Team DS, etc.
Manual trimming is optional, as nds-bootstrap will load it into RAM, with the padding trimmed out.
Bug fixes
- To get a few games listed below, working again, DSi WRAM is used for caching (total: 496KB).
Games now working
- Mario Party DS (thanks to @shutterbug2000)
- Pokemon Platinum (thanks to @shutterbug2000)
- Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver (thanks to @shutterbug2000)
- The World Ends with You (USA version) (thanks to @shutterbug2000)
- and some others...
Games now working again
- Ace Attorney Investigations - Miles Edgeworth (fixed by using DSi WRAM for caching)
- Bomberman
- MegaMan Zero Collection (fixed by using DSi WRAM for caching)
- Professor Layton and the Curious Village
- Yoshi Touch & Go
- and maybe some others...
Known bugs
- Since the v0.5.x releases, The USA/JAP/EUR versions of Metroid Prime Hunters does not work, and only the KOR version works.
- If a cart is inserted, when waking up from sleep mode, Mario Party DS's sound is muted, until reboot.
- In The World Ends with You, it may crash during a tutorial.
V0.5.1b
Credits: ahezard, Gericom, Apache Thunder, Robz8, _catcatcat, and shutterbug2000.
Warning for 3DS users: Be careful with leaving cards in slot-1. If the save patch fails, you will lose your save data should the chip type match.
Bootstrap path: "sd:/_nds/release-bootstrap.nds"
Bootstrap path in SRLoader (DSiWarehax): "sd:/_nds/dsiware-bootstrap.nds"
Bootstrap path in SRLoader (DSi: RocketLauncher and HiyaCFW): "sd:/_nds/rocket-bootstrap.nds"
Bootstrap path (for running homebrew): "sd:/_nds/hb-bootstrap.nds"
What's new?
- If debug is enabled, a "Press start" message will no longer be shown, and instead be on the debug screen for 1 second, before the ROM boots.
- Homebrew compatibility is back in a new seperate bootstrap .nds file!
TWLoader and SRLoader will support it soon.
Improvement
- LRU cache size has been increased from 7.2MB to 8MB.
As a result for example, like in v0.5.0, all of the intro data of Pokemon D/P can now be loaded into the cache, without overwriting.
Known bugs
- Debug screen in hb-bootstrap may be prone to running slow. If it stops, try again.
V0.5.1
Credits: ahezard, Gericom, Apache Thunder, Robz8, _catcatcat, and shutterbug2000.
Warning for 3DS users: Be careful with leaving cards in slot-1. If the save patch fails, you will lose your save data should the chip type match.
Bootstrap path in TWLoader: "sd:/_nds/release-bootstrap.nds"
Bootstrap path in SRLoader (DSiWarehax): "sd:/_nds/dsiware-bootstrap.nds"
Bootstrap path in SRLoader (RocketLauncher): "sd:/_nds/rocket-bootstrap.nds"
Bug fix
- In order to prevent corruption and crashes with games, when played later on, the LRU cache size has been lowered from 12MB to 7.2MB.
V0.5.0
Credits: ahezard, Gericom, Apache Thunder, Robz8, _catcatcat, and shutterbug2000.
Warning for 3DS users: Be careful with leaving cards in slot-1. If the save patch fails, you will lose your save data should the chip type match.
What's new?/Improvement
- LRU cache has been upgraded to use 12MB of main RAM instead of 496KB of DSi WRAM! Expect faster loading, and smoother gameplay!
The following games are now supported!
- Animal Crossing: Wild World
- Legendary Starfy
- New Super Mario Bros.
- Pokémon Diamond
- Pokémon Pearl
- ...and more that I may have missed.
Known bugs
- Some games are broken as a result of the LRU cache, and may or may not need force-use donor ROM option enabled for that game in TWLoader/SRLoader.
The following games for example, need the force-use donor ROM option set to work:
- Electroplankton
- Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
- MegaMan Battle Network 5: Double Team DS
- Pokémon Trozei
- Sonic Rush
V0.4.3
Warning: Be careful with leaving cards in slot-1. If the save patch fails, you will lose your save data should the chip type match.
Improve romhack and general compatibility(thanks to @Robz8!).
Important: The LOCK_ARM9_SCFG_EXT option must be disabled.
Credits: ahezard, Gericom, Apache Thunder, Robz8, _catcatcat, and shutterbug2000.
V0.4.2
Warning: Be careful with leaving cards in slot-1. If the save patch fails, you will lose your save data should the chip type match.
This version improves compatibility with romhacks that do not include(?) a module params section. SM64DS romhacks are an example of romhacks that fit this.
Soft reset can now be done with the L+R+A+B+X+Y button combo. Zelda Four Swords (USA) is used as placeholder app for soft reset(thanks @Robz8!).
Important: The LOCK_ARM9_SCFG_EXT option must be disabled.
