Currently, applicants can arbitrarily join/leave already-created teams whenever they want. This was originally intentional, however it's becoming a problem, because we're seeing teams that are mixed decision status (either someone admitted joined later, or someone not admitted joined later).
This requires a teams rework, and we should probably think about UX too. Currently the only idea I have is to just make it a question on the application (shows who is already on the team) and then display their current team in the portal somewhere, but display each applicant with their wave of applying (see #144) and also write a disclaimer that people applying in later waves will be admitted separately.
This blurb should be worded carefully, but should be something along the lines of "team applicant decisions are made independently across waves. ie, if Annie and Bob apply in team "Platypus" in wave 1, their application decision will be made together. However if Carol applies with team "Platypus" in wave 2, her decision will be made separately from Annie and Bob".
things I thought about:
applicants want to see who is currently on their team, regardless of wave. ie in the bob/carol/annie example, bob and annie might have a friend carol who applies later (they're ok with carol's decision being made separately) but would want to see carol show up in their team in the portal.
other stuff i forgot about
