What happened?

While having shaders on and the mod "Essentials" installed, enchanted items look like this sometimes.

I get this issue too, specifically when using Complementary Reimagined (and with Euphoria Patches if relevant). If there is a way to tweak the shader settings in hopes of fixing the issue, I have yet to find it. I also believe other mods installed may have a hand in this bug occurring, though I'm not 100% certain on this, and it is hard to find out due to how massive my mod list already is.

For me, the specific triggers of this bug occurring are when someone uses an Essentials cosmetic (An emote that emits particles -- may happen with other cosmetics too, not gonna pay to find out).
Only enchanted items turn pitch black within the GUI and nothing else. It's not a practical issue, but it is a jarring visual one that's bugged me for months now.

Note that when these particles eventually despawn, the bug stops occurring.

Other oddities include:

  • When using a Figura paperdoll, the emissive parts of your player model may also be less brighter when this bug occurs, depending on texture.
  • Oddly, this bug is dimension specific, and will not occur in the Nether.
  • For me, this bug isn't Minecraft version specific, and has persisted from at least 1.19 to the version I play on now, 1.20.4.
