Use a shell commands like:

echo "Emergence\EventBus::fireEvent('beforeBackup', 'Site');" | /usr/local/bin/emergence-shell mysitehandle > /dev/null

and

echo "Emergence\EventBus::fireEvent('afterBackup', 'Site');" | /usr/local/bin/emergence-shell mysitehandle > /dev/null

to enable each site to run code before and/or after its backups
