Request to read in the data using the grid wrapper and write both the grid binary object and the rendered image in the same virtual sensor.

Verify carefully that nothing is broken with the update. In particular, the web service call run a query on all the data in the table and assume that the only binary object is the serialized grid. The new rendered image will also be saved as a blob in the database, which can have side effects.
