If we moved to a private system, a version bit to declare this would be extremely useful (just a statement of intended usage so apps don't have to support all versions when some are no longer in use).

We can replace the first few bits of entropy used in BIP39 with version bits to accomplish this. That would also be seamless for all BIP39 code, and code which follows up with BIP32/44 until we upgrade.
