Motivation / Description

There are various sibling communities using JupyterHubs and the Jupyter ecosystem of tools for their work. There are many shared problems and shared avenues of work. We have been a part of various community discussions this past quarter, that helps us frame our work, integrate interesting open source tools being worked on within the community, and figure out ways where our work can help the broader ecosystem.

Proposal

Be part of community conversations and discussions with:

  • Other JupyterHub (esp within NASA) communities. We have already been part of a few conversations with OpenScapes, and meetings with JupyterHub leads coordinated by Tasha Snow. Continue participation and learning from similar communities.

  • The "JupyterGIS" community - there is strong momentum behind work on integrating better GIS features as part of JupyterLab - led by QuantStack, with the strong involvement of Fernando Perez. We've been involved in these discussions for a few months, and will continue close coordination to be early adopters of these tools, as well as contribute to shaping best practices around cloud-native geospatial in the browser.

Owner

Success Criteria

  • Have attended regular meetings of these communities and shared learnings / notes.
  • Publish a blog post about our contributions to the Jupyter ecosystem (with ESSDIO/VEDA attribution)
