User stories for flight-software

This discussion is for opening up user stories for the flight software. A user story follows the template:

As a/an {{user}}, I want {{activity}}, so that {{use case}}

e.g., As a starfleet science officer, I want to scan a class-M planet for life signs, so that I can verify life on other planets

User stories reference one or more stakeholder needs.

As per flight architecture meeting July 19, 2021,

As a ground station operator, I want to listen for spacecraft beacon, so I can monitor the operating mode of the spacecraft (i.e., power up & deploy, safe hold, de-tumble, ADS, Comms, & Mission Ops)

Sub-dividing user story per operating modes:

• As a ground station operator, I want to listen for spacecraft beacon, so I can monitor the "Comms" operating mode of the spacecraft
  • As a ground station operator, I want to listen for spacecraft beacon - Comms operating mode, so I can monitor the "power up & deploy" operating mode of the spacecraft
  • As a ground station operator, I want to listen for spacecraft beacon - Comms operating mode, so I can monitor the "safe hold" operating mode of the spacecraft
  • As a ground station operator, I want to listen for spacecraft beacon - Comms operating mode, so I can monitor the "de-tumble" operating mode of the spacecraft
  • As a ground station operator, I want to listen for spacecraft beacon - Comms operating mode, so I can monitor the "ADS" operating mode of the spacecraft
  • As a ground station operator, I want to listen for spacecraft beacon - Comms operating mode, so I can monitor the "Mission Ops" operating mode of the spacecraft

Observation: verification of operating modes are dependent on Comms operating mode.

Stakeholders should discuss if it would be desirable to query the spacecraft, and if so, what commands the ground station operator should be able to give to the spacecraft. e.g., groundstation --set-beacon-rate 10 (hypothetical ground station command to set beacon rate to every 10 minutes)

As per July 28 FSW architecture meeting, we need to define one or more packet definitions, s.a.:

• health packet
  • (optional) sun sensors
  • (optional) gyros
  • accelerometers
  • battery capacity
  • temperature sensors (1 per component: ADS, OBC, EPS)
• power conservation packet (displays amp meter readings per component)
• operating mode
