I like the simple ones at the very top, where it's easy to see what stage the badge represents. It probably would be good to also work with different colors to show the different stages. I wonder if it would be good to have the text OpenRail in the badges as well, so that the identification with the association not only relies on the logo.

An alternative approach would be to use the simple text-based standard badges which are frequently used in open source projects. There is https://shields.io to generate them. Or maybe a graphical variant based on their style.

This is how this could look like:

There are some more resources about these kind of badges in the Awesome Badges list.

I heard from many projects that they prefer this for their repos. However, a larger graphic would be certainly great as well, e.g. for presentations. For this, I like the ones at the very top and the ones at the very bottom the best.

For the badges generated by shield.io we could host the images on our web site. Then we are independent of the external service and are able to change the appearance of the badges centrally.

If we create badges, we should also remember the administrative OpenRail projects. Also see #146 #90

Would be fine with me. If we already design the badges ourselves, it might be cool to put a mono-coloured version of the OpenRail logo in front of the OpenRail text.
