Session Name

ROOT GRASS Session (Gongcha up for grabs!)

Abstract

The first GRASS Session for Freshmores! GRASS is ROOT's engagement platform for us to be transparent about university and ROOT matters, involve you in our projects and to hear about concerns that you might have.

Tell us your feedback about Orientation and ask us anything you would like to know about SUTD! We will also be sharing with you some SUTD hacks that could be useful to you in your journey in SUTD.

Student Organisation organising this session

The GRASS session will be organised by the ROOT Communications team.

Session intent (what to expect)

The main objective is to introduce Freshmores to GRASS as a platform for us to engage them and for them to share their concerns and get involved with us on projects that matter to them.

During this GRASS, we will be gathering feedback that they may have about Orientation through focus group discussions with the orientation organizing committee.
To help the freshmores with the start of their journey, we will also have ROOT members there to answer any queries they might have and we will be preparing an SUTD hacks sheet for them to take with them when they come for the session.

The session will be held at ROOT Cove to also introduce the freshmores to the venue as a student recreation space and the max capacity will be approximately 40 students at a time. As the session is free and easy, students will be allowed to walk in and out freely and no sign ups are required.

ROOT members will be there to help facilitate the session.

Some snacks and drinks will be catered for students who attend the session and this cost will be borne by the student government.

The preferred date will be on the 1st week of school in evening.

Could I suggest shifting this further back? This first week is pretty packed already so there isn't much time. The proposal is phrased to seem to be looking for a suggestion, so 1st week of school in evening
if you see the schedule:
https://open.sutd.dev/discovery-week-working-title/proposal_details/

if you want, 23rd is possible, between 1700-1900.

otherwise, I will need you to tell me a specific date and time so I can include it in the schedule/calendar please!

Oh! otherwise you could include it as part of the "Lab visits" and have a ROOT COVE open room(house)?

To add on to @Fishbiscuit - DiscoverSUTD is actually supposed to be scheduled from Week 2 onwards. We've been told Week 1 is basically filled with other stuff outside of what we control.

Thank for the replies guys!

Would, Wed, 22nd May, after human library be a possible option instead? Most of us are on internship so an evening slot would be ideal.

Apologies for not proposing the date as I was not sure if other 5th Rows had already locked in the dates yet.

The Lab Visits would be possible but I think that slot would be a little short especially since they will be going to other labs as well.

As Week 1 is quite packed, Week 2 Monday or Tuesday during the 5th Row sessions would be good too!
Possibly 1900 to 2100.
However, if the schedule is really packed on those 2 days, we could shorten the session to 1hr to avoid clashes with other 5th rows as well!

Thank guys!

human library is anticipated to overrun based on previous experience, sometimes it can last even an hour or so more than it's stipulated time. you could still hold it if you'd like to.

don't worry, we are fixing up the sessions proper to prevent clashes

If you're going for Week 2 Monday you'll clash with 2 fifth rows

  1. SOAR: [SOAR] Introduction to Arduino #13
  2. Productions: [FRS] Video Production Workshop Series #5

Week 2 Tuesday you'll clash with 1 fifth row and an ISTD intro session

  1. Photogcircle: [FRS] PhotogCircle Photography Intro Session #7
  2. ISTDx3DC: Python Development Workshop #9
