Question about homogeneous computation

Hey, I'm wondering where your inspiration for the 'homogeneous computational medium' matrix demos came from. Did it primarily come from systolic arrays, or did that connection come to mind later? I want to make sure while researching this that I don't miss any keywords to search on.

For me I would say it was mostly inspired by cellular automata. I wasn't thinking of any particular previous work at the time, but I would bet its possible to find prior work on the topic. Good luck!
