Newbie instructions for configuring an IDE?

I have very limited experience with PHP language, not to mention its development ecosystem. I have access to PHPStorm, but configuring the IDE for this project is way over my head.

• How does one set up a development environment, ideally using a docker image?
  • which image to use? I see that the default php:latest does not come with debugger? Is your dockerfile provided universal, in a sense that it can be used for debugging also?
• How to test a bridge? I see there are unit tests, and from what I understand they test all of the bridges at once. How do I go about testing the one I am about to write?
  • should I use another type of docker image for that, too?
• have you considered providing project file for common IDEs with everything pre-configured?

This is a nice project and the API seems fairly straightforward, so I imagine many more people even with limited PHP skillset could contribute if the dev env setup was made more accessible.

I am actually currently working on providing a codeserver stack (using web-vscode) that is preconfigured to use xdebug and so on, but I've ran into some roadblocks. I'm still on it though.

There are two basic ideas: Either install a server, xdebug and everything else inside of the vscode container or add xdebug as an option to the docker image and just attach to xdebug in the official container.

So if you want, you can take a swing at the vscode idea. I dont want to go for phpstorm since it needs a license while using vscode (and codeserver) is free.

The VSCode/Codespaces idea is not a bad one at all, and it would totally work as well.
