Waffle charts are a specific plot type that represents data as a set of stacked boxes:

ligyxy/PyWaffle provides a pretty full-featured waffle plot implementation. This opens an avenue to an inventive plot type that's become popular lately, the tilegram:

They can also be disconnected and/or use non-square tiles.
