SEB failed to start a new session! Please consult the log files for more information.

I have a friend and he is taking exams with SEB. Initially he was able to do the exam with SEB, but now he can't because of the error message SEB failed to start a new session! Please consult the log files for more information. always pop up no matter what. He said that before the error occurred, he was only trying to update SEB to the latest version because of his teacher's advice before taking the exam. And after that when he tried to open SEB, this error always pop up.

I suggest him:

• Try to uninstall SEB and install again
• Delete SEB cache in AppData folder
• Check the internet connection
• Shutdown antivirus
• Update .NET and vcredist
• Restart computer

All the suggestions mentioned above cannot solve the problem. I'm at lost right now to help him. I know the fact that I'm not in front of his computer makes it hard to ensure he does the suggestion correctly. I check the log file and it looks like the error happen because SEB trying to open a file that is not exist. Any idea to solve the problem?

There is definitely a fundamental issue with either the SEB installation (e.g. your friend manipulated it by deleting or renaming the executable specified in the error message above) or then the system (configuration) itself.

Maybe the logger could be improved by logging what file that is trying to be opened by SEB so that we know what the missing file is.

@kiraware Did you solve the issue? I'm having the same issue on my laptop. Could you please provide the steps you took to resolve the issue

I'm still cant solve it because I'm not in front of his computer and not sure if my friend do it correctly. Could you try the step that i suggest? Hopefully it solve your problem.

Also can you check that this file exist C:\Program Files\SafeExamBrowser\Application\SafeExamBrowser.Client.exe?
