Sailfish OS Sony Xperia Build and install instructions

Intro

This file tracks the install instructions for our ports

Prebuilds

Installation

Releases are saved in the droid-hal-version-repository of each port, a link to each can be found in the readme file of this repository. Download the zip file attached to the latest release and follow the flashing-readme.txt included in the archive.

If you need additional help please read the official flashing instructions: https://jolla.com/sailfishxinstall/

In case any problems arise please open an issue in the repository.

Updating your device

If you update from 4.4.x please follow Updates to existing installations before 4.5.x below first.

We warmly recommend making some 3-4 GB of free space for the internal storage of your device ( /home ) before starting the update. Processing an OS update of almost 1 GB requires a good amount of work area.

To start updating your device open “Settings > Sailfish OS updates”. Avoid running updates on the command line, please. Move your pictures and videos to the SD card (or to your PC or cloud service).

This is the usual drill before attempting to update your devices:

Take a backup of your data before attempting to update your device and save the backup to an SD card or to some other off-device location (PC, your cloud service). Note that videos and images are not included in cloud-based backups. Do not reboot the device while the update is in progress. Do keep the phone connected to a battery charger during the whole process. The device screen may blank out during the update process; you may wake the display with a short press of the power key to monitor the progress.

For detailed instructions on updating software, read the help article Updating Sailfish OS in Sailfish OS Documentation.

NOTE 1: Even thou we use the instructions used by the official Jolla ports these ports are not supported by Jolla Please don’t report report device specific issues to Jolla, if in doubt report the bug here first

NOTE 2: Sailfish OS does not support downgrading. Never try to downgrade the OS as this would break your device.

NOTE 3: After downloading an update and selecting “Install” in the pulley menu, the device runs a restart first. You will need to type the security code before the actual installation can start. A horizontal progress bar appears on a black background, under the Sailfish OS logo. As soon as the other end of the bar has been reached the phone will restart automatically. If it doesn’t, please wait for 15 minutes. If it is still stuck at the 100% point of the progress bar it is time to perform forced power off. Next, turn the phone on with the power key and check the OS version at “Settings > About product”.

Built it your self

Vanilla builds

Building this way is mostly the same as for official Sony ports. You only have to adjust the setup of hadk.env with values appropriate for your device (you get them by reading ./README.org).

The official instructions for building you can find here:

HADK tools build

HADK-tools based builds are build split into different units per section that is build.

Each section depends on the section before being build before.

The sections are in that order:

sfos.hybris.hal.sony.kernel.hadk
Kernel for Sony based Sailfish OS ports
mer.hybris.hal.pie.hadk
hybris-hal
sfos.hybris.hal.img.boot.hadk
droid-hal-img-boot
sfos.mw.hadk
Packages that use device specific sources or are just device specific middleware
sfos.mw.pulseaudio.hadk or sfos.mw.pulseaudio.jb2q.hadk
Pulseaudio modules needed for Hybris based ports
sfos.droidmedia.audiopolicy.hadk
Droidmedia
sfos.droid.syspart.hadk
Droid-system
mer.droid.configs.hadk
Droid-configs
sfos.droid.version.hadk
Droid-Version
mk.image.hadk
Building the final image for the device

When doing full builds these are ran through in that order.

Setup hadk-tools and pass the device for file your device variant to hadk.tools:

hadk.source -f sony.$variant.hadk
hadk.source -f sony.$build.hadk

Depending on your machine this can take some time!

After this you can your device using the ./flash.sh included the zip file.
