I see a lot of overlap with what is being done for handhelds and what is needed for input devices on the desktop. It would seem that the libratbag project is in need of maintainers and as a result the project has become stale. I am wondering if it would make sense to consolidate resources between handheld input devices and desktop peripherals to ensure active development to cover the needs of handheld and desktop users alike.
Things to consider
Libratbag supported devices,
often have "profiles" that can be stored within the hardware itself that is handled via hidraw
also share the need for RGB controls
Individual buttons can be mapped to other buttons and macros. I see how it could be beneficial for such devices to act as xinput devices in niche cases.
