Using i3, the indicator is invisble. I'm not sure why, but I'll probably look into it since I'm guessing no one here is running i3.

i3 is an independent WM? the indicator is for Ubuntu exclusively. I'm not sure what to use for a standard, universal indicator. Maybe Qt tray?

Same in openbox -> tint2 panel. The indicator icon is missing :(

Does your desktop setup include dbus? i3 sounds very minimum.

My fan control uses the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopExperienceTeam/ApplicationIndicators to show up itself and the desktop must support that. It's not like a common tray/notification icon such as Skype's, and I no longer have a Clevo laptop to work on improvements.

I suppose I could try to move it to Qt, which has the native notification icon support. But you'll have to help me testing it as there is no Clevo machine and I can only test the simple icon and menu.

Has anyone manage to fix this by any chance?

On GNOME 3.36 the temperature shows but not the icon
