PUD has the lemma of Balkans as Balkans

LinES has the lemma of Balkans as Balkan

Personally I prefer the LinES treatment here, as I have definitely heard of Balkan as a word without the s, but perhaps that's only ever been in the adjective context instead of as a noun. Any thoughts on the proper lemma here?

I have a vague memory of hearing "a Balkan" short for "a Balkan country", but perhaps it was said in jest.
