Compatibility Report

  • Name: ECO
  • Steam AppID: 382310

System Information

  • GPU: RX 5700 XT
  • Driver/LLVM version: 4.6 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 20.1.7 / LLVM 10.0.1
  • Kernel version: 5.8.6-1-MANJARO
  • Link to full system information report: GIST
  • Proton version: 5.0-9

Game Details

  • Website: https://play.eco/
  • Game Version: 9.0.1 (Tested older version as well)
  • Game Engine: Unity (Version 2019.4.9f1_50fe8a171dd9)
  • Game crash log: GIST
  • Proton log file: GIST

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

  • The game crashes before entering the main menu
  • The reason for the crash seems to be SteamAPI_Init() failing (as seen in the games crash log - line 262)
  • [WORKAROUND] Launching the game's *.exe via Lutris (not via Steam) results in the game launching to the login screen, where the player can login with a separately created game account on the dev's website. From here the game is playable and works as expected (without Steamworks functionality of course).

Reproduction

  1. Launch the windows version of the game via Steam. After the loading icon in the bottom left corner the game will crash.

Further notes

  • The game has a native Linux version which is not very playable (visual glitches, bad performance) atm. Launching the .exe via Lutris and with ACO compiler enabled works much better for me.

Hello @MadByteDE, err:steamclient:create_win_interface Don't recognize interface name: SteamUser021 looks like a line of interest in the log. Related: #3886

Currently outside of memory leak - works great. Though there is bug - performance goes bad when picking items or interacting with world. From stable 120 to 10fps, then it recovers.

Currently outside of memory leak - works great. Though there is bug - performance goes bad when picking items or interacting with world. From stable 120 to 10fps, then it recovers.

I also have this issue, with Proton Experimental and Proton GE.

I think it has to do with the text, which appears when using calories, picking up items or when tasks are using items.
This is text which moves and fades away, other text displayed doesn't affect performance, or at least not to such a high degree. (I am using a bunch of markers which are displayed all the time)

This is only based on observation I wasn't able to debug the game properly to verify.
