There are several duplicates of geonames-uris in the PMB-database.
I have two "Frankfurt am Main" in the database
This workflow:
search for an duplicate uri
enter "2925533" into the uri-search field
brings up two entries.
if I then choose uri 2 and delete it
and merge the two frankfurts a new second frankfurt-entry is created again with the geonames-uri

Having dug just a little bit deeper it appears that the problem is from how the Geonames-URI is constructed.
When one tries to merge an entry without (!) a geonames-uri into an entry with a geonames-uri starting with https://www. then a new entry is created with the same geonames-identifier but starting with https://sws
