Title: Ideas for Git –> Portal Contributions
Description:

The two main tools that we use for development of ACORD products are Github & Gitlab. What we want is a way for the software, contributions and contribution reports to be published between the Git services and this Portal.

To do this, we have a few options:
1. The creation of a new forum post whenever an issue on a gh/gl repo is created. This will be accomplished with the “bbpress for comments” plugin. Then you can reply to that thread to gain your on-site credits.

This will use IFTTT, Integromat, Zapier, Reddit & the Git services already mentioned. Every service that we use needs to be totally connected. Currently, due to the lack of requirements by other people, there is no easy solution to create activity posts and the like using a service like Integromat, which is why we will have to use the plugin I mentioned above.

Creating a comment will then send a notification back to githu, which will then send a message to the other websites/”services” mentioned above. New posts will be published on Reddit, so everything will be sent there. Things posted in Reddit will also go into Github. All of this will be browseable from the Portal, as well as the backup.

This will provide us with a way to send github issues to our forums, and the plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-discourse/ ensures that we can then collaborate also on the portal. Discussion can be done on any platform!

I’ve finally chosen my fitting for my ship:

* PVE Mission Basic – https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Cormorant/Fittings

* A screenshot of my fitting: https://steamcommunity.com/id/droidology/screenshots/?appid=8500

Unfortunately I died after attempting to complete an Epic Arc mission for the Sisters Arc, however I’ve got a plan, I’ve got more skills and skill points. I also have enough money to be able to afford to buy a new ship, but I might just do some mining ops for a little while to get some more ISK.

I was about to do another mining mission, but I got ambushed and had to go and get some more ammo. I’m now in a station that has the (s)antimatter charges that I need, so I can blast the pirate ship to death and then move in with my mining barge to collect the rest of the banidine from the asteroids. This will hopefully be done by Sunday.

Open Source Social Networks – a viable option?Permalink
Facebook. Twitter. Instagram. Google+ (just kidding). They’re all websites that are used by hundreds of millions of people every day, and they all have one thing in common.

They’re social networking sites.

Title: Recording video with a $6 camera on the Raspberry Pi
Description:

Published on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/ACORDRobotics/comments/frl5sq/recording_video_with_a_raspberry_pi_rraspberry_pi/

The Open Source Rover, which is one of the projects that we’ll be using the Pi for, does not actually have a camera module (the partslist is available at https://github.com/nasa-jpl/open-source-rover/blob/master/README.MD )

This means that we can potentially try out this camera on some other projects (like mini-robots) before transitioning it over to the OSR & our droid. As we’re having the entire project set being open-source, we want to ensure that the project files (as well as hardware instructions, which will be written on the Pi) are backed up, and here’s a link explaining how to do that: https://maker.pro/raspberry-pi/tutorial/how-to-back-up-your-raspberry-pi-project-files

This also ties in quite nicely with the Open Source Social Network features we’re going to be implementing: http://acord.software/stellarios/hydejack/open-source/network/2020-03-25-opensourcesocialnetworks/

Title: Mechanical Obstacle Avoidance for the AREEEH
Description:

Issue  #5 on Github/Exynos-999/EXPLORING_HELL_NASA_NIAC

To explore the daunting surface of Venus, NASA needs an innovative obstacle avoidance sensor for its mechanical clockwork rover.

Discuss the solutions for obstacle avoidance using mechanical systems here and on the google doc:.

Title: Reply To: Mechanical Obstacle Avoidance for the AREEEH
Description:

I don’t think that the first resource (one motor, all mechanical obstacle avoidance mentioned here is relevant:

OK, obstacle reflectance might be a better term, since this Lego Automatic Synchro Drive from YouTuber xyzzzach bounces off of obstacles, rather than actually avoiding them. But its design is so clever it deserves a bit of nomenclatural slack, IMHO. The entire ‘bot is surrounded by a spinning planetary-geared bumper. When the bumper contacts an object, it sticks, and its rotational momentum is transferred to a geared steering train that simultaneously rotates all four wheels, all of which are driven, away from the obstacle. And it’s all done with a single electric motor. Nice factory-style Lego assembly instructions here.

I’ve got a bunch of stuff to check out:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collision_avoidance_(spacecraft), and I guess https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collision_avoidance_in_transportation
https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/engineering/mechanical-sensor
https://www.te.com/global-en/trends/smart-connectivity-for-smart-cities/sensors-in-space.html
Slope Detection
I’ve found a number of things from Google Patents relating to this:

Collision Avoidance – Spacecraft

I’ve also been doing some thinking, and as per the outlines/rules here, we have an average of 1 Watt that we can use, with a maximum of 15 Watts with justification (on a limited basis). This has led me to come up with the idea that we could possibly make use of this extra power when we want to transmit data to the orbiter/mothership or for specific scientific experiments that require power (not a very innovative idea, I know). The rover will not need this 1 Watt of power to move, so we could investigate how much power a simple sensor like the ones I’ve shown here would use. The other problem, of course, is if it would be able to survive on Venus for longer than 6 months.
