Feature request: producer ping

bagger-38 lost a disk (foreign state). zfs halted, which halted all disk operations of postgresql-1. A connection to that postgres would therefore hang forever.

I'd like a database ping to detect the condition.

In case of a Segfault, we only notice a broken database connection when copy data is commited. Same solution here.
