Is there option to have aerospike on k8s tested and integrated with istio?

Currently we don't have any such option. We would try to plan for it.

There is one excellent feature from banzaicloud kafka which would be quite beneficial to have:

With the new Envoy protocol filter, RBAC integration can be entirely handled by the filter. There is now a way to define more fine grained ACLs than topics. We can push down ACLs to Kafka partition level.

How do you feel about Linkerd as an alternative service mesh?

we have enough brainpower to deploy istio and I do believe this will be top option. From other implementations I would consider linkerd2 and consul service mesh.

there is knative which works on top of istio, so more stuff is coming
