This is not that easy. There are extra libraries needed for it. For now only kde supports it. Transparency is possible. Blur is way too specific and complicated. If you know better let me know. |

@ManuelSchneid3r That's very unfortunate. Maybe the app needs to be rewritten using different tech stack? Something more modern that allows these kinds of features? |

Rewrite? 😄🤯 Which tech do you think is better? Qt does its job perfectly fine. Abstraction and performancewise. I think the problem is not up to a techstack but to the differences in desktops. This is not just macos |

@ManuelSchneid3r I am only thinking from a user's perspective. Think of a new Linux user. Maybe they are coming from a Mac and they expect Linux to be just as beautiful and pretty as MacOS. And he gets the impression that Linux cannot even have a beautiful blurred Spotlight app. They might think that there is something wrong with Linux. Is it not possible with Linux? What needs to happen in order for a user to have a nice blurred background for Albert on Ubuntu? Or is this not possible with Linux currently? |

Think of the implications. Any app able to copy the frame buffer behind it can be used as a spy app. Therefore there is no straight forward way to just copy and blur the background. This is something the windowing system has to do. Yesterday i found this: https://forum.qt.io/topic/110511/blurred-background-for-main-window. It uses the cocoa api. KDE has also stuff like this one. Gnome from v40 as well. The thing is this is something higly platform specific. This does not mean that it is not possible, its just that it has to go into a plugin somebody has to implement. Personally I tend to go breadth first instead of depth first and alway try to put generealization over specialization. |

@ManuelSchneid3r I understand what you are saying. But from a user's perspective who doesn't care about the technical stuff and only says "I JUST WANT IT TO BE PRETTY" - that might be the difference between using Linux with Albert or switching back to MacOS. You know what I mean? |

That's right. But actually this is not the kind of user I developed this app for. 🤷♂️ This is a techie tool. my work goes into areas where cool, not yelling and greatful people benefit the most from. the core feature. whoever wants to have this feature could write a plugin for it. it's not that I would not like Albert to be pretty but I want albert to be the functional most dope ass Launcher in town more. |

@martinszeltins For my part I am satisfied with Albert, but if he tells me how to add transparency I take care of the Bluen in my wm.I use a QML topic by the way. Thanks |

Closing since this is actually not the time to implement this. maybe if GNOME has this feature some years it may make sense to try to lazy load KDE or GNOME libs to use their compositor blur feature ,but atm its probably not worth the hassle |

Right now it is not possible to change the transparency or blur effect of the background. But I think it would look much more modern if there was such options.
Here we can compare it with MacOS spotlight. I think the Spotlight on Mac looks much more modern because of the nice background effect.
