so the launcher otherwise is working fine for me but after the recent 2.5 patch update even though the game is running fine the launcher background is stuck with the previous background image of the previous 2.4 patch second phase. I checked in the launcher directory and it seems to have downloaded the new background but still it's not using this new 2.5 background image.

Maybe too late, but... Go to /home/YOUR_USER/.cache/honkers-railway-launcher/ and remove the background file and open the launcher again. When is downloaded, launcher prioritize the background cached instead of the downloaded, so you are forcing him to download and cache it again.

Can confirm that @franciscoglop method works on my Steam Deck LCD with v.1.9.1, but with these additional steps:
on my Steam Deck it was /home/DECK/.cache/thumbnails/ ,there you must remove all background pictures that you can find of the old version both in the /large and /medium folder.
after that you also need to go to the launcher folder (the one as shown on your second screenshot) and delete the file named "background".
Restart and you should be able to see the background of the newest version!
