Describe the bug

Metal Gear 2 - Solid Snake graphics are glitched.
I have tried many bios and game roms. I have also tried with OpenMSX and the problem does not appear. Even with OpenMSX bios under Ares the issues occur.

Thanks for the report. Unfortunately the MSX2 core is still marked as experimental and has some known issues at the moment. I checked our compatibility database and there was the following note attached:

Player sprite is corrupted; cbios_main_msx2.rom is required

So there are known missing graphics, and it is also recommended to use a specific BIOS for this game right now. I will link this issue to the compatibility DB.

I didn't know that some emulators were still in the experimental stage. Maybe displaying the status of each emulator in the Load Menu Emulators menu would help prevent others people from mistaken the way I did?

For posterity: Ares compatibility list

That's OK, and you didn't need to close the issue. It is a valid problem and it will eventually get addressed. It isn't obvious from within the app itself but we do mark the experimental cores on the emulator homepage: https://ares-emu.net/
I was just pointing it out to set expectations. It is an issue and eventually it will get resolved as this particular emulator core improves. Thanks for the report.
