I did a clean install (master branch) on a virtual copy of ubuntu 14.04 and got to:

Name for the webwork database: [webwork]:
Ok, you entered: webwork. Please confirm.Ok, you entered: webwork. Please confirm.
  1> Looks good.
  2> Change my answer.
  3> Quit.

Well? [1]:
DBI connect('database=information_schema;host=localhost','root',...) failed: PkPklocal MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) at ./bin/ww_install.pl line 1790.

There's a chance I put in the wrong password, which resulted in this. Looks like it should die here, but it did.

I realizing now that I used the ww3 branch, which is described in the README (even for master). We should change that, but the issue above refers to ww3, not to master.

Another strange thing happened. There is no log file and the original install script is no longer in my home directory (where I started the process).

I reran it and was successful except the launch browser at the end and still no install log. Here's the error:

## Done.
cp: cannot stat ‘webwork_install.log’: No such file or directory
webwork_install.log can be found in /home/peter
