Since Matrix 19 was released subtitles on SBS on demand have been unreliable.
On previous version everything was working perfectly.
If I check the program on SBS website the subtitles are there but when viewed in Kodi they are not.
Please somebody help !!
Cannot use Kodi for SBS without subtitles.
Thanks

I've push a fix and a new version - v1.1.10

A couple of things to note:

  • There are 2 sources currently available from SBS to choose from. The one that we've been using seems to no longer have subtitles which is why you weren't seeing them (happens in Kodi 18 as well). Subtitles are only available when we use the other stream which uses google's dynamic ad insertion service on their end - means there will sometimes be ads now, and also the content will be divided into 'chapters' where the ads are inserted - whether there's ads or not. You'll see the chapter borders as little white dots on the OSD timeline.
  • There's still an issue with how Kodi plays the subtitles, specifically how inputstream.adaptive handles them. I've noticed that the subtitles only play in the first chapter, which is not so useful for you. As it happens, I know a little bit about inputstream.adaptive and may be able to come up with a fix for that, I'll add it to the list!

Thanks Glenn
I have tested now and see what you are saying.
Only has subtitles in the first chapter.
About the ads this is a real shame as the reason I have been using Kodi is to dodge the ads.
Nothing more distracting than having to watch ads during a program.
Was using Ublock before until they made it so that wouldn't work anymore.
Don't think there is any ad blocker out there now that would stop these ads.
If you can do something with that inputstream.adaptive that will be great and I will see how everything works then.
Cheers

Just an update on this issue.
If the movie or program is foreign with English subtitles then everything seems OK
There are no adds and subtitles work in all chapters.
It is only with English speaking and English subtitled movies and programs that there is the issue of no subtitles showing after first chapter.

Thanks @Ozrob08
What's happening I think is that a lot of the foreign movies have subtitles that are 'baked in' to the video - there's no turning them off, whereas the english content has subtitle files that are rendered over the video by Kodi, you can change font/size/position etc.

I hope to get around to fixing the issue in the next few weeks, I'll keep you posted!
