Options for low substream resolution

I’ve recently switched to Hikvision PoC cameras & undecided on the best way to set up the detect config.

The maximum resolution on the camera substream is too low for my preference.

I’ve tried using the record stream & modifying the detect resolution in the camera config which works, although uses more system resource.

My other thought was using ffmpeg to re-encode at a lower resolution - is that an option, and if so is it any better than using the record stream up above and letting Frigate do it automatically?

this will use more system resources than just using the record stream and changing the detect resolution
