Research Request - create highway-lane-hour flows, occupancy, speeds aggregation

Research Question

Single sentence description: Create the most granular dataset we can aggregate using HOV PeMs data for @hhmckay. Keep all columns related to lanes, flows, occupancy, speeds. Merge in dataset about vehicle detector status too.

Detailed description: We got 127 CSVs for a year (?) for data on all lanes on highways. We want to compare flow, occupancy, speed on general purpose (GP) and high occupancy (HOT/HOV) lanes.

Grain:

Note: postmiles in PeMS does not match with Caltrans SHN postmiles (which doesn't change)...but PeMs postmile can??

How will this research be used?

Understand how traffic flows can differ between general purpose and high occupancy lanes. Since we don't know what exactly is in PeMs, we will use this data request to begin to understand / set up future products to publish.

This is not the Olympic Lanes question, which is a separate (subset...focuses on 10/110 only), but also looks at a slightly different time period.

Data sources

• External data sources: Traffic Ops sent over data for [start - end dates] for all highway lanes + vehicle detector status.

Deliverables

• script to produce aggregate table
• better understanding of what other aggregated tables we can create
