Summary

There are three type of notifications listed under Variants in Components > Notification:

  • Inline
  • Toast
  • Actionable

However, six notification types are listed in Patterns > Notifications:

  • Inline
  • Toast
  • Actionable
  • Banner
  • Notification panel
  • Modal

Some confusions due to the inconsistencies between these two guidances:

  1. The 'banner' in Patterns is listed under 'inline' notification in components. Are all banners inline notifications?
  2. Listing 'Actionable' as a variant is confusing because it's just a button added to either Inline or Toast notification.

  1. In Patterns > Toast, the guideline suggests that toasts "are best used with system-generated messages that do not correspond to a specific section of the UI." However, the example under the text shows a 'Success!' message that is responding to user's action.
