Wheat Bran Breadmaker Bread

A hearty and delicious yet slightly sweet whole wheat bread that can be made in the breadmaker

  • 1½ cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 2 tablespoons dry milk powder
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 2 ¼ cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 ¼ cups bread flour
  • 1 cup whole bran cereal
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Tools

  • Breadmaker
  • Measuring cups/spoons
  • Wire Rack
  • Loaf Pan, Cooking spray, flour, mixing bowl, surface for kneading (if no breadmaker)

Steps

  1. Place ingredients in breadmaker (wet first: water, milk powder, then dry: the rest with yeast on top)
  2. Set crust setting to light
  3. Use standard breadmaking setting

If not using a breadmaker

  1. Preheat oven to 200 F
  2. Place ingredients in mixing bowl (wet first: water, milk powder, then dry: the rest with yeast on top)
  3. Mix ingredients together lightly
  4. Flour kneeding surface, place dough mixture on surface and knead well
  5. Spray loaf pan with cooking spray and dust with flour
  6. Place dough in loaf pan and punch down
  7. Place in oven to proof until dough does not spring back when pushing finger into it
  8. With no dough in oven increase heat to 270F
  9. Bake until evenly brown
  10. Remove from pan and let cool on wire rack
