Ability to turn statistics off or to have them synchronize on a periodic basis.

Since statistics utilize front-end/back-end variables that are kept in sync with widget messages, it could be useful to suppress (or pace) their transmission for performance reasons. Perhaps local statistics should be kept in front-end only and back-end only vars...and the synchronized "properties" could be more selectively updated to match?
