Home page. Lots of "region" landmarks

Overview

role=region is very generic, and we use a lot of them on the homepage. Do we need to split the main content of the page into that many regions?

This discussion is intended to uncover if using too many landmarks can degrade the experience for some users.

Using sparingly

All these regions create a lot of landmarks for this page. Currently, each section is very small and succinct. It could make it harder to skip to the footer for some users. Regions are used to quickly skip over longer pages.

The different sections of the homepage flow into one another, describing Notification as a whole, I don't believe splitting everything in a distinct landmark is necessary

Context

From the MDN a11y docs:

region landmark roles content should make sense if separated from the main content of the document.

That's something worth discussing on its own. I don't think all sections can make sense if detached from the homepage.

Mismatch between label and heading

Although allowed, the labels and headings on the homepage sections don''t match. Examples:

1. heading: Built for the Government of Canada label: Target audience

Sections or region landmarks labels should reference a visible header preferably.
