I got an email today from GitHub:

Hi @monaw,

You recently used a password to access the repository at cianfrocco-lab/COSMIC-CryoEM-Gateway with git using git/1.8.3.1.

Basic authentication using a password to Git is deprecated and will soon no longer work.
