Can't detect self intersections

In MeshLab, 'Select self intersecting faces' is able to correctly select self intersections.

However when I use PyMeshLab on the same .ply file, it doesn't seem to detect anything other than an empty dictionary.

ms = pymeshlab.MeshSet()
ms.load_new_mesh("my_mesh.ply")

out = ms.compute_selection_by_self_intersections_per_face()

Does anyone know what the issue might be?

Nevermind, I have discovered current_mesh().face_selection_array()
