The San José Department of Transportation maintains a traffic signal layer. This dataset is in the public domain as a work of a California local government agency.
For OpenHistoricalMap, we can import a highway=traffic_signals node corresponding to each point in this layer, with start_date=* set to the original activation date in the ORIGINALACTIVATIONDATE field. There’s also a DEACTIVATIONDATE field, but it doesn’t appear to be set for any record in the dataset. For now, it’s OK if the nodes float freely. We can manually attach the nodes to the few existing roads in the city.
