Consider adding "Import" and "export" verbs to cover users' actions within badge hosts/"backpacks".

Additional notes from today's call with the Caliper Working Group:

Main Actors:

  • Issuer,
  • Endorser,
  • Recipient (sometimes "earner")
  • LMS where assessment is occurring (MetCriteria)
  • Displayer
  • Host / Backpack (often acting on behalf of a recipient)

Viktor's suggestion: try to refocus actions on user as opposed
to the systems that are operating on users' behalf. Particularly, learner-centric.

  • "Demonstrated" instead of "MetCriteria" for instance
  • "Viewed" instead of "Displayed" puts focus on what the "consumer" of the badge does
instead of what the system showing them data does.

Endorsement:

  • Any Open Badges issuer may be an endorser
  • Every Endorsement has an issuer (authority), uses same verification procedures as Assertions.

Markus:

  • Is there a good intersection to make this a "digital credentials" proposal as opposed to Open
    Badges-focused.
  • Verbs could be described in a more generic sense. Verbs should be shared between multiple use cases.
"Modified" for instance has no need to be Open Badges-specific.

Next steps:

  • Do some discovery on "Can we create a profile within the Digital Credentialing domain that
can satisfy the needs of Open Badges and cover some more activities in relates specs/communities?"
  • Draft a generalized version that doesn't do injustice to the Open Badges ecosystem needs recorded here,
circulate for feedback with other constituencies in the domain. +1+1
  • Markus is the designated coordinator nominee. (congratulations!)
  • Get some eyeballs tasked!

Timeline:

  • No later than nov quarterly to lay out the scope of what goes into Caliper 1.2.
  • Goal: have agreement on release cadence going forward by then

Updated the verbs in commit ff166b9 to be more student-focused.
