With fantastic support from our community, the block height on Crypto.org Chain has reached over 3.3 million this month. As of now, there have been more than 5.9M transactions and 3.4B delegated CRO tokens broadcasted to the network. To enhance the ecosystem, several network upgrades are happening, and we have recently released the new binaries for the Crypto.org Chain and Cronos Chain. With each release and advancement, the Crypto.org team continues to deliver on the promise of constructing a scalable and open network that provides the same level of trust and security with more diverse features. In this Dev Update, we are excited to highlight the latest updates of the new upgrades with you.

Cronos Mainnet

Cronos is the EVM chain running in parallel to the Crypto.org Chain. It aims to massively scale the DeFi ecosystem, by providing developers with the ability to instantly port DApps from Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains, with funding from Particle B’s $100m EVM fund and access to the 10M+ user base of the Crypto.com ecosystem. To celebrate the launch, we’ve given away $1,000,000 on Twitter where 1,000 winners each got $1,000 in BTC.

Since its launch on 8 November, Cronos has been serving hundreds of users and making the IBC transaction between Crypto.org mainnet and Cronos mainnet possible. Through Cassini, we’ve discovered some potential issues and applied what we’ve learned to optimize the Cronos mainnet. Overall, the Cronos mainnet performed well. There have been some technical issues at the beginning of the launch, such as RPC lagging and transaction delay, butthanks to our community, who reported the issues to us in time, and our dev team, who responded to the issues and made the fixes as early as possible, our chain has become more steady. Up to now, the Cronos Mainnet binary has been updated to v0.6.4, which is based on Ethermint v0.7.2. The new release contains multiple bug fixes on the Ethermint RPC endpoints, providing a smoother user experience.

Cronos Hackathon - Ending on 8 December 2021

Our first-ever Cronos Hackathon was launched on Friday, 24 September 2021, and will be held until Wednesday, 8 December 2021.

This Hackathon serves as an opportunity for the blockchain community to explore, learn, and develop innovative projects based on various tracks, including IBC, DeFi, NFT, GameFi, Web3 tool, etc. And it will be a massive opportunity for your company to connect with the broader Ethereum and Cosmos developer communities. In addition, taking part in this event will bring exposure to your brand as we are looking to allocate significant marketing & PR support for it.

With sponsorship from Particle B, this Hackathon features a total prize pool of US$500,000 to encourage developers to contribute ideas and build early-stage projects to the Crypto.com ecosystem. The prizes will be allocated based on the results of the community voting.

Upgrade on Cronos Testnet v0.6.4

Cronos Testnet is an EVM sidechain along the main Crypto.org Chain built on Ethermint with smart contract capability. Similar to Cronos mainnet, the newest Cronos Testnet binary has also been made available Cronos Testnet v0.6.4 with the following changes:

• The recent releases contain multiple bug fixes on the Ethermint RPC endpoints and third-party dependencies.
• The bug fixes and improvements have also been made on IBC fund transfer and EVM-related in Ethermint.

The Crypto.org Chain v3.3.2

The governance proposal on Crypto.org Chain Phase 2 DRACO II with native token issuance has just ended on December 6. We proposed a network upgrade for the Crypto.org Chain mainnet crypto-org-chain-mainnet-1, which intends to enable native token issuance via IBC solo machines. Coin issuance is an essential building block for the Crypto.org Chain DeFi ecosystem. The tokens can be issued easily with solutions such as Solo Machine, and they are natively recognized and can be transferred around for purposes such as payments and NFT trading.

Along with this, v3.3.2 of Crypto.org mainnet has been released lately. The binary v3.3.2 is upgraded based on Cosmos SDK 0.44.4, Ibc-go 2.0.0, and Tendermint v0.34.14, which contain a fix for the vesting account migrations (the workaround was removed). Specifically, the recent releases including binary v3.3.2 include the following key updates:

• New module x/authz: It allows granting arbitrary privileges from one account (the granter) to another account (the grantee) to execute certain messages on its behalf
• New module x/feegrant: One can authorize the payment of transaction fees from a different account
• New types of public keys and signing algorithms (e.g., secp256r1, which is commonly applied in HSMs, and iPhone Secure Enclave) will allow these devices to function as hardware wallets basically.
• The vesting account bug was fixed, solving the previous technical issue on the vesting account and limiting the usage of the vesting account. With the fix of this problem, Crossfire winners now can manage the reward in their vesting accounts.
• Governance “weighted votes,” which allows the validators to split their voting power towards the governance proposal with the power amount they prefer, instead of using all voting power on single voting.
• The previous binary has improved state-sync related functions so that the interested validators and full node hosts can use it to get state-sync
• Improved error message of SendTransaction/SendRawTransaction JSON-RPC APIs, fixes on registering EVM gRPC Msg server, getting block invalid transactions filter, and wrong block gas limit returned by JSON-RPC.
• Other changes include increasing the security of the IBC module, improving interaction with inactive clients via governance and with relayer, fixing the solo machine light client, etc.
