This poem is described in Mona’s Herald as a “Translation of those beautiful verses by Mary S. B. Dana, ‘Passing Under the Rod.’ by a Manxman, in Illinois.” It is not a very close translation, Dana’s version has an extra verse and each verse ends with the line “I love thee — I love the — pass under the rod!”. —“Pass Under the Rod.
