Nothing happens when I click on "custom install"

Hi everyone,
I just bought Elementary 8.0 and am trying to install it. The iso has the right shasum, and Balena Etcher has written and verified my installation thumbdrive. When I boot that thumbdrive, the initial steps of the installation, as well as trying out the OS, work fine until I get to the point where you get to choose between different installation options. Then, when I click on Custom Install (which is the only option I'm interested in), the window closes, and I get to look at the wallpaper until I lose patience, while absolutely nothing happens. I've waited for five minutes without anything happening.

Unfortunately I can't give you a brand or model name for my computer, since it was put together from bits and pieces by the small independent computer shop where I bought it. It should be a pretty standard Windows compatible PC, though, and Elementary 7.1 runs fine on it.

I have the same problem. I'm using a Lenovo Yoga 720 laptop. Demo mode works ok but when I get to the point of choosing the different installation options nothing happens. Window shows a drive icon but nothing else whichever option I choose. Just hangs. I'm not techie so I have no idea what to do. Guess I'll just ask for my money back.

OK, I somehow managed it to get around it. But that was a really long and complicated process with a lot of false starts. Basically, I had to get out an old gparted live dvd of mine, and erase some of my partitions, and then replace them with new ones. And even then I guess it was partly just luck that it worked in the end. Phew.

eOS 8 has GParted available in demo mode though

i am not sure what could cause the installer to crash... If you want to help, try running in demo "G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all io.elementary.installer >> installer.log" in a terminal - and reproduce the issue.

It would create a file with a lot of informations useful for the team to understand what could cause this and avoid it

I wouldn't mind doing that, but now that I've done the changes to my partition table that I talked about, the bug seems to have disappeared for me.
