Hello there! This Community Roadmap was a first attempt at crowdsourcing team information for a Filecoin roadmap. As the Filecoin ecosystem is decentralized, creating a single vision for the future of the protocol can be difficult. We have since experimented with other ways of capturing and reporting this information, which no longer lives here. If you're looking for more up-to-date information on what's happening in the world of Filecoin, there are several resources which may be of help:
It is also recommended that you search for the repos and websites for teams of interests! Many teams track and publish their own roadmaps, which offer significant detail about planned enhancements, opportunities for community involvement, developer partnerships, and other information. For example:
There are many teams and companies working in the Filecoin ecosystem, and lots of places to find information! If you need help navigating all of the ongoing work, are looking for specific teams, or have general questions about protocol development, please feel free to reach out to Kaitlin Beegle (@kaitlin_ff on filecoinproject.slack.com; [email protected]). |

The first iteration of the Filecoin Community Roadmap was released in 2022Q1.
The purpose was to crowdsource projects that have the potential to significantly impact the Filecoin ecosystem, opening up the network and community to new users and use-cases.
The roadmap is now available with updates through 2022Q2:
This quarter, a majority of updates concerned moving the timeline into the future, as most of the ecosystem is focused on supporting, implementing, and planning around the June launch of the Filecoin Virtual Machine.
Using the Roadmap
The Roadmap is designed as a tool for community wayfinding; a reference document for everyone.
Its purpose is to provide insight into the strategic development of the network in the coming year and to create a pathway for community members to learn more about ongoing work and connect directly with project teams.
All of this information can be accessed in the dynamic Roadmap. There, each project block expands to show project details, key project points-of-contact, and links to project websites and developer repos.
The dynamic roadmap can be accessed HERE.
For instructions on how to use the dynamic roadmap, check out THIS VIDEO.
Next Steps
In the coming quarter, staff at the Filecoin Foundation will be working with project partners to include updated program information after the release of the Filecoin Virtual Machine.
If you are working on or aware of a project that is not currently featured, you may submit it during the next quarterly update. The Community Contribution period for 2022Q3 updates will open on June 1 and remain open for one month.
Again, please note that this is a community project, and is not designed to be inclusive of every project and initiative within the Filecoin ecosystem.
A preliminary tooling re-scope will also be kicked off. The purpose is to create a Roadmap tool that is increasingly accessible and dynamic. This work will likely extend over several months, so stay tuned!
