I'm willing to provide details if this repo is still maintained.

OS: Pop!_OS 20.04 LTS
PHP Version: PHP 7.41
PHPStorm Version: 2021.3.1

I'm on Windows (I know...), but it works for me:

Changed php.ini with this:

xdebug.remote_enable=1
xdebug.remote_host=127.0.0.1
xdebug.remote_port="9000"
xdebug.profiler_enable=0

And clicking on debug (not play like it was written in the plugin docs)
