Description from a user:

Some websites have pop ups or layovers that create a grey box on the website. It cannot be removed. Tried moving forward on the site and back. Within seconds the site's popup returns. Normally this an ad to install their own app or "subscribe" window. How to remove this as I cannot browse any e-commerce or news site.

@seia-soto it looks like this is a general problem, not only on ebay. User wrote back that this happens on all major websites.
Greybox issue is Gecko specific as far as I remember.
List of sites where users see the grey artifact:
CNN, CNBC, wsj, Lifehacker, Amazon.
